HERBS

To follow is a list of common and not-so-common ailments and what herbs are best used as a remedy or prevention. this is only a guide of what was used in ancient times and You do need to

seek medical advice before using any of the herbs or oils listed.


 

Acne – alfalfa, kelp, echinacea, dandelion root, burdock root, chaparral, valerian, gentian, yellow dock root, capsicum (cayenne), lecithin aloe vera gel.

 

Anemia – chlorophyll (liquid from fresh green vegetables), dry beans and peas, yellow dock root, red clover blossoms, comfrey, dandelion, red beets, burdock root, mullein leaves, kelp, dulse, alfalfa, raspberry leaves, blackstrap molasses, bee pollen. Eat grapes, prunes, raisins, dates, apricots, and sesame seeds (these foods are high in iron). Almond milk (almonds blended with water then strained).

 

Arthritis – yucca, alfalfa, Brigham tea, comfrey (root and leaves), horsetail, chaparral leaves, black cohosh, celery seed, valerian root, burdock root, skullcap, wormwood, kelp, cayenne, sarsaparilla root, angelica. Use distilled drinking water. Drink broth made from potato peelings (for high potassium content).

 

Asthma – comfrey, fenugreek, lobelia, juniper berries, horsetail, licorice root, horehound, ginger, wild cherry bark, pleurisy root, black cohosh, coltsfoot, royal jelly, mullein, chickweed, saw palmetto berries, chamomile, slippery elm bark, kelp, oranges. Eliminate pasteurized dairy products.

 

Bad breath – alfalfa, chlorophyll (liquid or from vegetables), peppermint, rosemary, sage, myrrh, acidophilus.

 

Bladder problems – marshmallow, asparagus, corn silk, horsetail, white oak bark, burdock root, golden seal, parsley dandelion, fennel, uva ursi, slippery elm, chamomile, rose hips, juniper berries. Eat watermelon and the seeds. Drink plenty of liquids. Cranberry and apple juices are excellent. Eliminate coffee.

 

Blood pressure – high: cayenne, garlic, Siberian ginseng, black cohosh root, kelp alfalfa, gotu kola, hawthorn berries, myrrh, angelica, evening primrose oil, wheat germ, lecithin. Eat watermelon and the seeds. Eliminate animal products and salt. Low: parsley, dandelion, angelica, shepherd’s purse, golden seal root, ginger, garlic, ginseng.

 

Blood purification – red clover, burdock root, garlic, yellow dock root, dandelion, licorice, echinacea, chaparral, barberry, sarsaparilla, yarrow, comfrey, golden seal. Also, lemon beet, and carrot juices. Apples and grapes.

 

Bones (strengthen/rebuild) – alfalfa, arnica, comfrey leaves, horsetail, oat straw, kelp, parsley, burdock root, chaparral, slippery elm bark, Irish moss, almonds, sesame seeds, chlorophyll, spirulina, fresh ground coconut. Eat leafy greens (high calcium content).

 

Bronchitis – golden seal, coltsfoot, comfrey root, myrrh, chickweed, mullein, slippery moss, ginger, eleampane, red sage, yerba santa, pleurisy root. Eliminate pasteurized dairy products. 

 

Burns/scalds – burdock, chickweed, comfrey. Apply aloe vera (fresh or bottled gel) or comfrey poultice, vitamin e oil or linseed oil, or calendula (marigold) cream.

 

Cancer – red clover blossoms, Burdock root, yellow dock root, golden seal, parsley (fresh), onions (fresh), blue violet, myrrh, echinacea, slippery elm, comfrey, pke root, dandelion root, rock rose, agrimony, pau d’arco, chickweed, sorrel, chlorophyll (preferabaly wheat grass juice), bee pollen. Eliminate animal products.

 

Childbirth (to ease) – black cohosh, blue cohosh, squaw vine, red raspberry leaves, shepherd’s purse, spikenard, passion flower, licorice root, comfrey root, kelp.

 

Cholesterol (to lower) – hawthorn berries, cayenne, garlic, golden seal, kelp, black cohosh root, apples, lecithin, pectin (found in fruits and vegetables). Eliminate red meat, animal products, salt, fried foods and coffee.

 

Circulation (to improve) – blessed thistle, cayenne, garlic, ginger, black cohosh, gentian, chickweed, blue verlan, comfrey, golden seal, rose hips, horseradish, vitamin e, lecithin. 

 

Colic – mistletoe, ginger, catnip, fennel, angelica, chamomile, wintergreen, anise, blue cohosh, peppermint, motherwort.

 

Colon cleansing/laxative – red clover, barberry bark, psyllium husks, ginger root, chlorophyll, cascara sagrada, slippery elm, aloe vera juice, butternut bark, rhubarb root, Irish moss, garlic, buckthorn bark, golden seal, cayenne, lobelia, fresh fruits (especially apples, figs, grapes, prunes) acidophilus. East fresh, raw, high-fiber foods. Drink lemon juice, also green vegetable juices.

 

Dandruff – burdock, kelp, sage, nettle, yarrow, bayberry, chamomile, yucca. Rub jojoba oil into scalp. 

 

Depression – gout kola, kelp, spirulina, bee pollen, ginger, black cohosh, evening primrose oil.  

 

Diabetes – ginseng spirulina, garlic, huckleberry leaves, golden seal, parsley, gentian root, licorice root, dandelion root, blueberries, raspberry leaves, juniper berries, kelp, bladder wrack, yarrow, uva ursi, comfrey root, marshmallow root, buchu leaves, lecithin. Avocadoes, almond milk (almonds blended with water then strained).

 

Diarrhea – red raspberry leaves, comfrey, slippery elm bark, psyllium husks, kelp, ginger, cayenne, coltsfoot, chamomile, marshmallow, mullein. St. John’s wort, bayberry bark, cranesbill root, bananas.

 

Digestion – papaya leaves, papaya, peppermint leaves, ginger root, catnip, comfrey, fennel seeds, sunflower, cayenne, dandelion. 

 

Ear ache – chickweed, black cohosh root, golden seal root, lobelia, skullcap, angelica. Brigham tea, licorice root, yellow dock, mullein, hops. Put a little warm olive oil or garlic in the ear.

 

Energy/vitality/strength/endurance – licorice root, Siberian ginseng, foti, dandelion, peppermint leaves, ginger root, garlic, parsley, gentian root, red clover blossoms, yellow dock, gotu kola, kelp, bee pollen, damiana, acacia, spirulina, pumpkin and sesame seeds. Proper diet and exercise are also necessary.

 

Eyes – evening primrose oil, eyebright, golden seal, bayberry bark, red raspberry leaves, angelica, alfalfa, spirulina (high in vitamin a). Eat carrots, yams, and green leafy vegetables. Drink carrot juice. For a soothing eyewash, make a tea from eye bright, borage flowers, golden seal root, red raspberry leaves and rosemary. Strain the tea well and let it cool before use.

 

Fasting - licorice root, spirulina, bee pollen, fennel, hawthorn, fruit and vegetable juices, distilled water.

 

Female problems – squaw vine, blessed thistle, false unicorn, uva ursi, ginger, marshmallow, raspberry leaves, cramp bark golden seal root, black cohosh, lobelia, queen of the meadow, dong quai.

 

Fever – sage, peppermint, valerian, vervain, dandelion, chamomile, fenugreek, lovelia, yarrow, angelica, wintergreen, nettle, parsley

 

Fingernails (to strengthen) – horsetail, irish moss, comfrey, kelp, dulse, oat straw, alfalfa, chlorophyll. 

 

Food poisoning – charcoal tablets, lobelia tea, elecampane, wheat bran, apples, alfalfa, kelp, fennel, broth made from potato peelings. These suggestions are for mild cases. Contact your physician in an emergency.

 

Gallbladder – horsetail, dandelion, parsley, peppermint, ginger root, red clover, milkweed, golden seal, fennel, barberry, cramp bark, garlic horseradish, hydrangea. Use beet and apple juices. Use three tablespoons of unrefined olive oil mixed with lemon juice (to cleanse the gallbladder). No animal protein or fried foods.

 

Glands – garlic, forte, Siberian ginseng, black cohosh, licorice root, mullein, lobelia, parsley, kelp, saw palmetto berries, alfalfa, yellow dock, echinacea, slippery elm, dandelion, oat straw, figs, raisins, sunflower seeds.

 

Hair – horsetail, alfalfa, sage, rosemary, nettle, Indian hemp. Eat dulse and kelp (high in vitamins and minerals). Use only natural hair care products.

 

Hayfever – comfrey, yerba Santa, parsley. Mormon tea, mullein, lobelia, chaparral, burdock root, marshmallow, bee pollen, raw honey.

 

Headache – basil, blessed thistle, ephedra, ginger, wild lettuce, valerian, peppermint, thyme, rosemary, white willow bark, wood betony.

 

Heart problems – hawthorn berries, cayenne, garlic, ginseng, lecithin, motherwort, rosemary leaves, borage, blue cohosh, blessed thistle, angelica, valerian root, dandelion, barberry, evening primrose oil, doles, kelp, bananas, vitamin e no fried foods, salt, red meat, or dairy products. Use unpasteurized apple cider vinegar in a drink or on salads (high in potassium which strengthens the heart).

 

Hemorrhoids – bee pollen, comfrey, Collins onia root, parsley, aloe vera, bistort root, buckthorn bark, myrrh, burdock, uva ursi, cayenne, garlic, red and green cabbage. Apply vitamin e oil.

 

HERBS

Immune system – echinacea, siberian ginseng, golden seal, myrrh gum, yarrow, cayenne, rose hips, watercress, garlic, onions, spirulina, bee pollen, green vegetables.

 

Infections – echinacea, golden seal root, taheebo (pau d’arco), comfrey root, marshmallow, yarrow, cayenne, lobelia, bugleweed, plantain, black walnut, myrrh gum, blue vervain, cinchona, garlic, kelp, watercress, onions, bee propolis (a natural antibiotic), chlorphyll (from green vegetables or supplements).

 

Insomnia – valerian root, hops, sculicap, catnip, lady’s slipper, passion flower, clecry juice, raw honey.

 

Kidney problems – uva ursi, juniper berries, nettle, parsley, marshmallow root, apples, chamomile, alfalfa, ginger. Eat watermelon with the seeds. Drink distilled water. Cranberry and apple juices are excellent.

 

Liver – dandelion, apples, red beet, onions, horsetail, angelica, goldenrod, lobelia, liverwort, parsley, celandine. Oregon grape, comfrey, blessed thistle, wild yam root, carrot juice, grapes, apricots. Mix apple juice, cayenne, lemon juice, and two to three ounces of olive oil into a drink for cleansing the liver.

 

Longevity – bee pollen, spirulina, ginseng, gotu kola, licorice root, fo-ti, cayenne pepper, garlic. Also refer to herbs for “energy/vitality/strength/endurance”

 

Lungs – slippery elm, bayberry bark, chickweed, coltsfoot, ginseng, marshmallow, blessed thistle, lungwort, lobelia, comfrey, angelica, yerba santa.

 

Memory – gotu kola, ginseng, rosemary, periwinkle, blessed thistle, chlorophyll, alfalfa, almonds, bee pollen, sesame seeds, lecithin.

 

Menopause – kelp, sage, black cohosh, damiana, red raspberry, dong quai, chamomile, wild yam, kelp, black cohosh, blue cohosh, squaw vine, alfalfa, evening primrose oil peppermint tea.

 

Nursing – to stimulate milk production: fennel, blessed thistle, horsetail, borage, dandelion, alfalfa, red raspberry, spirulina, almond milk (almonds blended with water then strained). Drink plenty of pure water. To dry up milk: yarrow, parsley, sage, black walnut bark, wild alum root.

 

Osteoporosis – kelp, horsetail (for the silicon content) alfalfa, oat straw. Also refer to herbs for “bones”. Eat plenty of leafy greens. Greatly reduce or eliminate your intake of animal protein and pasteurized daily products

Pain – Solomon’s seal, chamomile, mint, catnip, mullein, wood betony, ballerina, nettle, horsetail, cayenne, wild lettuce, white willow bark, skullcap, kelp, blue verlan, angelica, wild yam.

 

Poison oak/ivy – mug wort (grows near poison oak), Solomon’s seal, myrrh, echinacea, black walnut extract. Apply aloe vera gel or vitamin e cream.

 

Pre-menstrual tension – dong quai, evening primrose oil, kelp, black cohosh, licorice root, raspberry leaves, passion flower. 

 

Prostate – parsley, juniper berries, gotu kola, horsetail, slippery elm bark, saw palmetto, corn silk, pumpkin seeds, kelp, golden seal root, uva ursi, gravel root, bee pollen, lecithin. 

 

Senility – gotu kola, Siberian ginseng, cayenne, alfalfa, kelp, pumpkin seeds, peppermint, skullcap, lecithin, nutritional yeast. Eat high-fiber, fresh, raw foods. Reduce or eliminate pasteurized dairy products and refined foods.

 

Sexual rejuvenation – male: ginseng, saw palmetto, licorice root, fo-ti, ginger, sarsaparilla, bee pollen, lecithin, gotu kola, damiana, pumpkin and sesame seeds, pistachio nuts, figs. Female: saw palmetto, damiana, ginseng, onions, periwinkle, dong quai, fenugreek, sage licorice root, eggplant.

 

Stress/tension – valerian root, celery, spearmint, vervain, chamomile, catnip, peppermint, passion flower, hops, rosemary, sculicap, mistletoe, wood betony, lobelia, bee pollen. 

 

Thyroid – golden seal, bayberry bark, Irish moss, cayenne, gentian, black cohosh, poke root, white oak bark, molasses, parsley, kelp, watercress, black walnut, sarsaparilla, apricots dates, raisins.

 

Tumors/cysts – dandelion, red clover, golden seal, bistort root, comfrey root, yellow dock, slippery elm, borage, kelp, evening primrose oil, blue violet, chickweed, red root. Eat lots of fresh, raw foods, especially grapes.

 

Ulcers – catebbem canglica, slippery elm, myrrh gum, irish moss, bayberry, licorice root, golden seal root, comfrey, alfalfa, sage, blue violet, chickweed. Drink carrot, cabbage, and aloe vera juices, and broth made from potato peelings (high in potassium, which helps neutralize acids).

 

Weight reduction – spirulina, alfalfa, parsley, fennel seeds, checkweed, lecithin, bladderwrack, licorice root, safflower, irish moss, kelp, dulse, sassafras, burdock root, black walnut, papaya.

 

Worms/parasites – black walnut hulls, garlic, violet, chaparral, pinkroot, wormwood, butternut bark, buckthorn bark, carrot, sage, wormseed, pumkin and sesame seeds, fresh ground coconut, apricots.

 

Yeast Infection – juniper berries, squaw vine, golden seal root, myrrh gum, witch hazel leaves, comfrey root, buchu leaves, garlic. Drink theses herbs in tea form.
