Don't Rock the Cradle

Do you think you are pregnant or are you thinking about having a baby?

Well, you better not have been rocking any empty cradles lately; or stepped on the shadow of a child; or perhaps stroked the fur of a male cat backwards; or spilled milk in an empty room! Because if you have, that empty cradle will soon be filled.

If you are pregnant, you probably want to bear a genius (if for no other reason than to look good), but what variety are you going to

have boy or girl?

People have been pondering this question for many centuries and it’s not surprising that gypsies found a way to define an infant’s sex

go into a garden where there are red and White rose bushes growing closely together.

Spin around in front of the bushes 11 times with your eyes shut, moving from east to west, then reach out and pick one of the blooms.

If you have chosen white, you’ll have a girl, if a red one, a boy and when your baby is born, be it on a Sunday, or on a New Year’s Day, or during a full moon, or if it has a full set of teeth, it will be very lucky. But if it’s born with only one tooth, beware- it will be a vampire.

And here are some more hints concerning your child:

To help a baby become somebody in this world, you will have to carry him/her up a flight of stairs and down at least seven times.

If you don’t want your baby to become a thief, don’t cut his fingernails. The nails have to either break off by themselves or the baby will have to bite them off.

To ward off evil, you will have to hang a bag of crushed onions around its neck.

Do not let you baby-sit on any hard surface (like concrete) which is man made, or it will become hard hearted and ruthless.

If you are a woman who longs for a child, remember these things.

Obtain a bag of sunflower and pumpkinseeds. At the new moon, eat five of each. Continue eating them until the full moon.

If you don’t become pregnant before the next new moon, start the spell again.

Eating fish will bring a large family.

If a woman’s apron falls off, she will have a baby within a year.

The wearing of Jasper makes childbirth easier. It also prevents fits.

To become pregnant, walk naked in a garden and pick Hypericum on November 21.
